This project will enhance wetlands and create homes for endangered frogs and wildlife.
About the project
This project will enhance eight of the highest priority wetlands within the Lower Avon/Perry River target area, a key refuge for Green and Golden and Growling Grass Frogs within the Gippsland Lakes.
The project will:
- Create two new frog bogs in the highest priority location to assist the increasing of the known population of Growling Grass frog and Green and Golden Bell Frogs.
- Enhance wetlands to increase freshwater refuges for the Green and Golden bell and Growling Grass Frog increasing their distribution, supporting current populations, and encouraging breeding within the Clydebank Morass wetland complex.
- Provide opportunities for Traditional Owners to work on Country with threatened species and increase their capacity to lead future projects.
- Assess the current wetland/habitat condition at four sites (total 82 hectares) to provide a baseline and inform management of ecological values and threats.
- Work with landholders and GLaWAC to improve the protection and condition of wetlands.
- Buffer habitats by fencing areas from livestock and controlling high-threat weeds.
- Contribute to GLaWAC’s cultural mapping project.
