This project will improve the riparian condition of Magees Gully which is a waterway connected to the Macleod Morass. The Macleod Morass is one of two freshwater wetlands in the Gippsland Lakes Ramsar Site which provides important habitat for threatened species including waterbirds and frogs.
Magees Gully receives significant stormwater flows from the township of Bairnsdale. Working to improve the riparian corridor of the Gully will contribute to the reduction of sediments entering into the Gippsland Lakes and the protection of critical wetland habitat.
East Gippsland Shire Council will lead the delivery of this project and work in partnership with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Corporation (GLaWAC) and contractors to undertake on ground works.
