This is a Traditional Owner led project which will integrate cultural values with environmental values to provide important information on the presence and distribution of fauna species throughout the Gippsland Lakes catchment.
This project will support Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) in undertaking environmental DNA (eDNA) of selected significant species across the Gippsland Lakes, associated rivers and fringing wetlands. Sites and species selected by GLaWAC hold significant cultural values and ecological significance, aligning with the priorities of Traditional Owners while addressing key environmental objectives for the Gippsland Lakes.
Partnerships will be strengthened between GLaWAC, EGCMA and WGCMA, through sharing and discussing findings from this project to foster improved decision making.
