This project will improve the riparian condition of Flooding Creek which is a key tribitary of the Thomson river. The Thomson river is connected to the Latrobe river and Sale Common, one of two freshwater wetlands in the Gippsland Lakes Ramsar Site which provides important habitat for threatened species including waterbirds and frogs. Flooding Creek receives significant stormwater flows from the township of Sale.
Wellington Shire Council will lead the delivery of this project and work in partnership with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC), West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority (WGCMA) and contractors to undertake essential on ground works including the construction of a ‘frog bog’ wetland, weed control of priority species (including Mexican Water Lily) and revegetation works. The installation of a ‘frog bog’ wetland will support known populations of Growling Grass Frog in the area increasing freshwater refuges.
