This project will continue to deliver critical pest plant and animal control activities across the Gippsland Lakes Outer Barrier. This is a Traditional Owner led project which will be planned and implemented by Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Corporation (GLaWAC).
Invasive animals including foxes will be targeted across priority locations to support threatened shorebird breeding.
Invasive plants that will be targeted through this project include boneseed, sea spurge, dolichos pea, boxthorn, prickly pear, bridal creeper, asparagus fern and ‘mother of millions’. CSIRO control methods for sea spurge will continue to be implemented along 90 Mile Beach and other high priority sites within the project area. Specific control actions and target areas will be guided by priorities identified in the updated Gippsland Lakes Invasive Species Strategy.
GLaWAC will lead the planning, prioritisation and delivery of this project working with Parks Victoria as Joint Managers of the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park.
