This project will contribute to the reduction of sediments entering into the Gippsland Lakes through the implementation of waterway protection and enhancement works in prioritised riparian areas.

About the project

This project will involve waterway protection and enhancement works on priority reaches of the Gippsland Lakes catchment with the aim to reduce river erosion and reduce the risk of sediment/nutrient transportation downstream into the Gippsland Lakes. Works will include establishing management agreements, fencing, weed control and revegetation works across multiple sites across priority reaches including the Latrobe, Thomson, Macalister, Avon and Perry catchments.

West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority will lead the delivery of on ground works for this project, and work with Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation (GLaWAC) NRM works crew to identify their capacity and desire to undertake riparian works.
