This project will add sand to critical bird habitat and review boating rules to minimise shoreline damage near Crescent Island.
About the project
This project will add sand to critical bird habitat and review boating rules to minimise shoreline damage near Crescent Island and will:
- Renourish up to five hectares of island shoreline to improve nesting habitat for shore birds such as Little Terns.
- Change rules to reduce vessel speed and wash impact on shoreline erosion.
- Provide sea time experience in maritime operations for up to four GLaWAC crew.
This will improve bird habitat, provide safe navigation channels for vessels, reduce vessel impacts on the shorelines and provide opportunities for GLaWAC crew to build on their maritime related skills and experience leading to recognised marine qualifications.
