Large structural habitat is typically degraded, reduced or missing in many parts of the large tributaries of the Gippsland Lakes. The reintroduction of large wood structure or snags has been demonstrated to provide beneficial habits for many native species of estuarine fish.
About the project
This project will create fish habitat structures in the Lower Avon River.
This project will:
- Create fish habitat in the Avon River estuary. This includes reintroducing large logs for fish to feed, breed and shelter in.
- Fish surveys will be done and after the habitat is added to measure the success of the new habitat. Monitoring activities targeted at fish species and abundance will also be completed.
