Love our Lakes is managed by The Gippsland Lakes Coordinating Committee who work to identify where funding should be allocated to help maintain or improve the health of the Gippsland Lakes.
Living or working on the lakes, or in the catchment, is a great privilege. The ongoing health of the Gippsland Lakes is vital for the environmental, economic and social prosperity of the region.
As a resident, visitor or user of the Lakes, you have a key part to play in ensuring that we keep this unique environment healthy.
There are numerous networks, groups and individuals out in your local community who are eager to hear from new and interested members.
The Gippsland Lakes, located in south-eastern Victoria, are made up of a series of shallow coastal lagoons separated from the sea by broad sandy barriers.
They include Lake Wellington, Lake Victoria, Lake King and a number of smaller lagoons and wetlands. These Lakes are fed with freshwater from five main rivers – the Latrobe and the Avon flow into Lake Wellington, the Mitchell, Nicholson, and Tambo into Lake King.
The Lakes form the largest navigable network of inland waterways in Australia. They contain a number of internationally significant wetlands and support a diverse range of flora and fauna.
