Boating activity including anchoring and mooring can have impacts on the seabed – especially seagrass which is an essential part of the ecosystem.
About the project:
This project will install environmentally friendly swing moorings in the Gippsland Lakes.
This project will:
- Develop and install ‘seagrass friendly’ swing moorings.
- Allow vessels to moor without impacting the seabed and the plants that grow there.
- Protect seagrass beds and the greater Gippsland Lakes ecosystem.
These environmentally friendly boat moorings will reduce pressure from human activity and improve and protect aquatic habitats and ecosystems by allowing vessel mooring without impact on the seabed and particularly on seabed flora which is important habitat for aquatic fauna that in turn supports the wider aquatic ecosystem.
